Daughter of the west wind

-Rakarota

NOTES: All creation myths have a common purpose and in turn are equally valid. The storyteller who is said to have told this one asked the question: "This is my story. Do you wish to hear it told?" The deeply personal nature of creation myths reveal our complete reliance on our imaginations in explaining the origin of things. In this story the woman in skyland restlessly persues her dreams until she falls to the earth below. Her desire for change is answered by the world around her and the forces that helped her are not forgotten.

The woman looked

through the hole left by its

roots and saw the earth far

below - unlike the earth of

today, for there was no

land, only water.
